A bustling hub of indie shops, boutiques, music venues, and more come together in this upscale, vibrant neighborhood

Often described as the "Brooklyn of Los Angeles," Silver Lake is a popular neighborhood in the Eastside of Los Angeles that fully embraces its trendy, hipster vibe. This bustling hub is tremendously popular with artists, families, foodies, boutique shoppers, and young folks. From vegan cafés to artisanal coffee shops, there's plenty of hotspots in the neighborhood.

Over the years, Silver Lake has developed into an upscale, sophisticated place to live for celebrities and professionals thanks to its proximity to Downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood. Aside from its walkable streets—like the famous Sunset Junction, which is the intersection of Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevard—Silverlake is encompassed by several parks, walking trails, and scenic hilltop views. While Silver Lake boasts many single-family homes, it's also an excellent area for singles and is home to a strong LGBTQ+ community.

Things to Do

The Silver Lake Reservoir is a staple in the neighborhood. The central complex comprises two concrete-lined basins—Silver Lake and the Ivanhoe Reservoir—that are divided by a spillway. Surrounding the Silver Lake Reservoir is a heavily-trafficked, 2.2-mile walking trail that makes for a great jogging path. Dogs are allowed on the trail—so long as they remain on a leash—and it is accessible year-round.

Sunset Junction is the name given to the intersection of Santa Monica and Sunset Boulevard, two of Los Angeles’s most famous streets. For most of their lengths, these two streets run parallel to the Pacific Ocean until they meet at this junction, where Santa Monica ends. Not only is the junction pivotal to the history of gay rights, but it also houses numerous restaurants and shops. It is now one of the busiest areas in the entire community and a popular tourist destination. Some of the best retail stores around can be found along Sunset Boulevard.

Music fans frequent The Satellite, a renowned venue for local and indie band performances. There is an onsite bar, and bands often perform for free.
